For today's Video of the Day we have soprano Clara Orif singing 'Ah, je veux vivre' from Gonoud's Roméo and Juliette accompanied by Jack Redman. Orif is a member of Royal Academy Opera, a postgraduate course at the Royal Academy of Music that aims to prepare young singers for the professional world. In November the company will be staging Handel's Ariodante in which Orif will be playing Ginevra.

'Ah, je veux vivre' ('Ah, I want to live') is from Gonoud's opera based on the Shakespearian tragedy, Romeo and Juliet and is sung by Juliette in act 1. Whilst the opera itself doesn't see that many revivals, 'Ah, je veux vivre' is a staple of the soprano repertoire - with it's soaring melody and impressive coloratura passages, it is easy to see why!

The upcoming Royal Academy Opera production Adriodante is part of the Academy's Autumn Season
